Jeanette Sartain has a strong commitment to helping people improve the quality of their lives. Her clients come from many backgrounds and cultures; and her work addresses issues of conflict including, but not limited to: multiple-party, government, neighborhood, landlord/tenant, family/elders, property, partnerships, business/consumer, employment, GLBT, personal injury, and even pets. MEDIATOR, FACILATOR & COACH: Strong background in Violence Prevention, serving as a counselor, victim advocate, educator, and trainer; founder/lead mediator/coach, Custom Mediation and Conflict Coaching, a service focusing on convenience and customized support for the client; mediator, Multiple-Party Services, Sacramento Mediation Center; Program Manager, Two-Party Mediation, Sacramento Mediation Center; and trained in varied models, including Community, Facilitative, Transformative, Interest-based, and Victim/Offender.
Experienced in facilitation for large and small groups; leads sessions for many local, state, and federal government entities, as well as associations, corporations, and private groups; served as head of the nation’s largest Tribal Task Force addressing violence prevention and cultural competency.
One of a handful of pioneers nationwide in the exciting new field of conflict coaching. The process can be private and one-on-one, or used in a group. Each session is individually designed, using a combination of evaluations to determine the clients’ conflict styles, power bases, and immediate needs, and then, using dialogue/discussion, exercises, goal-setting, and follow-up.
TRAINER, EDUCATOR & OUTREACH SPECIALIST: Trainer specializing in large-group education, U.S. Department of Commerce; Tribal Liaison (working with 33 California Tribes), U.S. Department of Commerce; trainer on Sexual Assault/Stalking and Cultural Competency for early-response police teams, W.E.A.V.E.; trainer, S.P.I.R.I.T. Program, which aids endangered, gang-affiliated youth; V.O.M.P. Program for youthful offenders on probation; and with colleague Jacklyn Boor, developed PeaceMoves: Working with Conflict, an innovative program offering trainings in dispute resolution and communication.
WRITER: Has published articles on a variety of subjects in the field of social services and violence prevention; created a comprehensive survey for targeting the needs of elders; published (prose and poetry) in Bacchus Literary Supplement, Gato Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle; and winner of Alpha Publishing “Poets’ Project”, San Francisco. Currently completing a booklet for teens on sexual assault, and writing a book on conflict coaching.
