SUSAN MAZER & DALLAS SMITH

Internationally known concert artists and composers, Susan Mazer and Dallas Smith have pioneered the intentional use of music in institutional and health care environments. The essence of their talented work seeks to stimulate and encourage both the intellect and the spirit. Acknowledging that the sound environment is the most oppressive, the most invasive, and the most relentless component of the institutional experience, Mazer and Smith, wife and husband, have developed training and implementation programs to condition the institutional setting.

CONSULTANTS & EDUCATORS: Participate in ongoing research and development of various health-supporting and healing environments; continuing education certified workshops for healthcare professionals include "Music: A Life-Altering Decision," "Beyond Silence: Creating a Context for Healing," project outcomes reveal reduced need for pain medication, staff and patient stress relief, and less calls by patients for nurse and physician attention; adapted experiential workshops for community and educational institutions focus on the role of music in strengthening life-management skills; substance abuse prevention programs for K-12 youth endorsed by the U.S. Department of Justice, Partners Against Violence Network.

CONCERT MUSICIANS & RECORDING ARTISTS: Electro-acoustic harpist, Susan Mazer, and Dallas Smith, multi-woodwind musician, concerts display an original blend of traditional music and modern jazz (since 1985); perform at world-class jazz and fine arts festivals; music featured on National Public Radio, PBS, and the Discovery Channel.
